Kelly Sloan

Kelly Sloan (she/her) joins Big City Mountaineers as the Interim Bay Area Program Manager with more than 15 years of experience in outdoor education, youth development, and organizational risk management. She’s led programs everywhere from alpine ridgelines to university campuses—most recently serving as Director of Education and Campus Risk Manager at NatureBridge in Yosemite National Park, where she oversaw staff teams, emergency protocols, and educational quality in one of the most iconic outdoor classrooms in the country.
Kelly is also a seasoned NOLS instructor, teaching both wilderness medicine and extended backcountry expeditions. Her work has taken her from 30-day expeditions with college-bound youth to scenario-based Wilderness First Aid courses where students build confidence and critical thinking in the outdoors. Whether she’s managing logistics behind the scenes or leading from the field, Kelly centers cultural humility, trauma-informed care, and a belief in young people’s inherent strength.
In addition to her professional roles, Kelly is deeply committed to community service. She has served as a Family Liaison Officer for Yosemite National Park, supporting families during critical incidents with compassion and clarity. As a volunteer with Mountain Rescue Association and a facilitator for Justice Outside’s Outdoor Leaders Initiative, she brings her expertise in safety, equity, and leadership to both emergency response and grassroots education efforts—always with an eye toward building inclusive, resilient outdoor communities.
Off the clock, you’ll find Kelly casting a fly rod in alpine creeks, backpacking through the Sierra, on the hunt for the perfect croissant, scouring the ground for fallen fruit, or enjoying sandy beach days with her 9-year-old niece—especially if there’s tidepools involved. She’s honored to support BCM’s mission and bring her field-tested approach to mentorship, safety, and joyful outdoor exploration.
