Hillary Chavez
Hillary was born and raised in the heart of Los Angeles. Within the city she was fortunate to explore the outdoors in Griffith Park via casual hikes and walks with her mother. This sparked her interest in exploration and learning more about the natural world.
Her formative exposure to the backcountry started during her college career, at Kenyon College. There she joined the outdoors club and fell in love with backpacking. She considered it extremely challenging but fulfilling. As she participated in those outdoor spaces she noticed one important thing- there were not a lot of people who looked or came from the same background as herself. She became motivated to make outdoor spaces more equitable and providing transformative opportunities to marginalized youth who would not otherwise.
When Hillary does not have her BCM cap on, she enjoys going on hikes and into the backcountry -with a pair of binoculars at her side! She especially enjoys birding but loves to learn about any critter that crosses her path. When not in the outdoors Hillary enjoys drawing and catch up on the latest TV shows on her list.
