Today's Lesson: Pulling Your Own Weight

Post-Expedition

Backpacking Expedition

The Team Leader must send the completed expense report and receipts back to Big City Mountaineers within two weeks. This is MOST important because our bookkeeping records are closed shortly after the season as we begin planning for next! Please help make this process go smoothly for our staff by getting your records and receipts to them as soon as possible.

In addition, the surveys that you will receive are very useful to the office staff to make the program better each season. Let us know what went well and what did not. We love to hear stories from the trail, so share your experience with us!

After you get back, we ask that you send a CD to BCM with pictures from your trip. We also have opportunities for adults to win prizes by submitting a Personal Expression (essay, poem, story, etc) about their experience. Winning entries are showcased in our Annual Report.

We also ask our adults to nominate exemplary teens from their trips for employment opportunities with Big City Mountaineers. We employ alumni teens in a variety of positions in the office and as Peer Leaders back out on the trail/water.

After you return home, think about ways to follow up with your teens. Call the youth program and see how they are doing in school and other activities. If you live near them, plan a post trip dinner or hike. Many leaders send photos to the kids along with segments from their journals of the trip. Some BCM hubs will have organized follow-up outings (Goals) during which you and your teens can reconnect. Think of other ways that you can continue the correspondence and relationship on your own.
